No. 2-ranked USC beat No. 7 San Diego State 12-7 in women's water polo in the Aztecs' Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener yesterday in Los Angeles.
SDSU (2-3, 0-1) had a 3-2 lead after one period, but the Trojans (6-1, 2-0) outscored the Aztecs 5-1 in the second quarter and never looked back. SDSU's Rachel Serna (Coronado High) scored twice, as did Stacy Werner and Becca Ur. SDSU goalkeeper Sarah Kilgore had five saves.
Men's volleyball
Cal State Northridge swept UCSD 30-21, 30-26, 30-20 in an MPSF match at RIMAC Arena. Luke Honnette had 11 kills and fellow senior hitter Adam Toren added 10 kills and four digs for the Tritons (0-11, 0-10). The Matadors are 8-6, 4-6.
