Building on a legacy

Builder Mark McMillin's family has been a prominent part of the San Diego County housing scene since the 1960s. His father, the late Corky McMillin, borrowed on the equity in his South Bay home to start a small business that grew into a large and diverse real estate company. Mark McMillin joined full time in 1979, after graduating with a marketing degree from SDSU. He eventually became president and CEO of The Corky McMillin Companies, running the business together with his brother, Scott.

Disneyland has gone back to the future, but it's not an all-plastic world after all. The place is Tomorrowland, as it was from 1957 to 1967, when Monsanto's all-plastic “House of the Future” drew more than 20 million visitors, fascinated by microwave ovens, TV speaker phones and “cambrian vinyl corlon.”
Builders garner 6 Gold Nuggets in Best in the West competition
San Diego County earned six top Gold Nugget awards last week at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference Best in the West competition in San Francisco, where judges liked area builders' approach to affordable and environmentally sensitive developments. Local winners also received 18 merit awards.
